An unconscious woman who was left at a hospital with several injection sites on both of her butt cheeks dies on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department told Newsweek that at around 1:50 a.m. local time on Tuesday, officers were called to the Jacobi Medical Center, located at 1400 Pelham Parkway in the Bronx following reports of an "aided, unconscious female."

When officers arrived to the scene they were informed by hospital officials that a 53-year-old woman was recently dropped off at the hospital by two other women. According to police, the 53-year-old woman was "unconscious and unresponsive," when she was left at the hospital.

Police did not provide the identities of the 53-year-old woman or the two other women that dropped her off at the hospital. "The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification," police said.

"The aided female was subsequently pronounced deceased at the hospital and the investigation remains ongoing," the NYPD spokesperson said.

While speaking with Newsweek, a spokesperson for the NYPD confirmed that the woman appeared to have several injection marks on both of her butt cheeks.

According to the NYPD, the city's medical examiner will investigate the incident and determine the official cause of death.

While the woman's cause of death was not confirmed to be from the butt injections, this is not the first time an individual has been injured or has died from receiving buttocks shots.

In September 2019, a woman in California died after receiving multiple silicone embolisms. The Washington Post reported that two women, identified as 51-year-old Libby Adame and her daughter, 23-year-old Alicia Galaz, performed the procedure that resulted in Karissa Rajpaul's death. The mother and daughter were arrested in September 2021, according to the Washington Post.

In 2015, a New York woman died after she received butt injections in another woman's basement. In 2019, 39-year-old Donna Francis plead guilty to administering the fatal butt injections that killed 34-year-old Kelly Mayhew, according to WNBC news in New York.

WNBC reported that police said Mayhew died after the silicone injections traveled into her bloodstream. "In pleading guilty, the defendant has now admitted to causing the death of a young woman who sought a cosmetic procedure at a discount and paid with her life," acting District Attorney John Ryan said in 2019, according to WNBC.

In 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning "about the serious injuries and disfigurement that can result from using injectable silicone or products being falsely marketed as FDA-approved dermal fillers for the purpose of enhancing the size of their buttocks, breasts and other body parts."

"When seeking to enlarge the size of their buttocks or breasts, or other large-scale body contouring procedures, some consumers are falsely told they are receiving an FDA-approved dermal filler, but are actually injected with silicone," the FDA said.
