The key to achieving a fuller, plumper pout lies in this powerhouse product—no injectable lip fillers required.

Here at T&C, we pride ourselves on our discerning eye for quality. With Tried & True, our editors will give you an inside look at the pieces they simply cannot live without.

In recent years, there has been a steady rise of women, old and young, choosing non-invasive injectables to plump up their lips. Whether it be for aesthetic purposes or to combat the signs of aging, many turn to the pros to solve all their pout problems with lip fillers. But what about those of us who choose not to go under the needle but still want to experience that coveted soft, pillowy pucker? Look no further than the Ourself Lip Filler.

True to its name, this topical lip plumper is akin to a cosmetic injectable in a tube. When I was first introduced to it, I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical. (For background, my lips aren't exactly small but they aren't as defined as I would like them to be, either.) I had used several plumping products before, but none gave me that extra bit of long-lasting oomph I sometimes craved. This one, however, leaves me with noticeable results that always look very natural and never too artificial in mere seconds. Seriously, every time I apply a layer to my lips, I catch myself whispering, "Wow," under my breath as I stare at my reflection in the mirror. It's that good.

So what sets the Ourself Lip Filler apart from other volume-enhancing formulas? This one mimics the long-lasting results of an injection with the help of a special multiphasic vesicle technology that goes the extra mile to infuse specific amounts of hyaluronic acid (the same superpower ingredient found in a Juvederm syringe) to areas on the lips where they need it most, as well as a Vitamin B3-derived color enhancer that adds an incredibly natural tint to your pout. The formula is fast-absorbing, too, which means you can immediately top off your lips with a balm, gloss, or lipstick of choice. What's more, Ourself also offers refillable cartridges separately that you can pop into the pen once you've used it all up.

Full disclaimer: Like most plumpers, there is a slight tingling sensation upon application. Don't be alarmed; that means the filler is working its magic at pumping up the volume. The tingle might feel a tiny bit overwhelming for some—it surely did for me at first because I wasn't used to it—but when applied as a thin layer, you'll barely feel a thing. For best results, consistency is key. The brand recommends applying five layers in the morning and at night during the first five days, and then one layer three times a day for a continuous plumping effect. Though, I will say that just one to two applications a day does just the trick for me, which makes my cartridges last longer, as a result.

As for the price point, the Ourself Lip Filler does fall on the more expensive side—$145 for a one-time purchase of the pen with the cartridge and $100 for two cartridges—but compared to an actual injectable, which can cost up to a whopping $1400 per syringe, you do get more bang for your buck. Plus, it's a great alternative for those who suffer from trypanophobia (fear of needles) or just prefer not to get a cosmetic treatment. I can confidently say that this plumper does exactly as it promises and never falls short of achieving a pretty pout.
